Turkish fiber internet subs doubled in five years

Turkish fiber internet subscribers reached nearly 10 million

Türkiye’s fiber internet subscriber doubled over the past five years, reaching nearly 10 million, according to a report by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK).

The “Quarterly Market Data Report on the Electronic Communications Sector” showed that fiber subscribers rose to 9.85 million last year, up from 4.84 million in the final quarter of 2021. The number increased steadily over the period, climbing to 5.7 million in 2022, 6.75 million in 2023 and surpassing 8 million in 2024, per the report.

Growth comes from fiber-to-the-home connections

The report highlighted strong growth in fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) connections, which expanded from about 3.5 million in 2021 to more than 8.6 million last year. In contrast, fiber-to-the-building (FTTB) subscriptions declined slightly, falling from 1.3 million to 1.1 million over the same period, the report noted. (By the way I have a story here about BTK and 5G tender in Türkiye)

The expansion in subscriptions has been accompanied by a significant increase in infrastructure. Total fiber optic cable length grew from 471,020 kilometers at the end of 2021 to 680,524 kilometers last year, marking a 44% rise in network coverage across the country, the story underlined.
