Boom in Turkish EV sales in 2023

Turkish EV sales went up 844% in 2023, accounting for 6.8% of total automobile sales

Sales of electric vehicles (EV) in Turkey reached 65,562 units in 2023, according to the data of Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD). This is an 844.4% year-over-year (YoY) increase, and EVs accounted for 6.8% of the total sales, up from just 1.2% in 2022.

ODMD announced that the overall passenger car and light commercial vehicle market surpassed 1.2 million units last year, representing a 57.4% YoY increase. The earlier annual all-time high stood at 984,000 units in 2016, the story claimed at Daily Sabah. According to ODMD data, passenger car sales increased by 63.2% throughout the year, reaching 967,341 units, while the light commercial vehicle market saw a 39.2% increase, reaching 265,924 units. Togg tops the list, followed by Tesla

Togg, homegrown EV of Turkey, lead the list and delivered 19,583 vehicles, followed by Tesla with 12,150 sales. On the other hand, Chinese automaker BYD, which entered to the Turkish market in November 2023, and managed to delivered 839 vehicles.

As for European Union, fully EV sales in the bloc went up 48.2% annually from January through November 2023, reaching 1.37 million units, according to the data of European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA). Here are the top 3 EV-selling countries of EU: Germany(469,565), France (260,864) and the Netherlands (103,330)
