Aselsan unveils Türkiye’s homegrown satellite communications network

The company plans to begin launching the constellation’s first satellites within the next few years

Turkish defense company Aselsan  unveiled its Gokbagi (Astralink) low Earth orbit satellite communications constellation, designed to provide fast and secure connectivity for military, government and civilian users.

The company introduced the dual-use network at the 77th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2026) in Antalya. Aselsan CEO Ahmet Akyol said the company plans to begin launching the constellation’s first satellites within the next few years.

“We designed the Gokbagi project from the chip level up,” Akyol told Anadolu, adding that Astralink is the project’s international name, while Gokbagi will continue to be used in Türkiye.

The project aims independence in space technologies and communications infrastructure

The project is part of Türkiye’s broader efforts to strengthen its independence in space technologies and communications infrastructure, according to the story.

Aselsan also showcased satellite ground receivers based on active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology. The systems can digitally track satellites without mechanically repositioning antennas, improving communication efficiency, the story said.

Another exhibit was the Gokturk-3 synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite, designed to capture high-resolution images of Earth’s surface even through dense cloud cover.

Akyol announced Aselsan also invested in space manufacturing infrastructure at its newly built campus.

He highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence in space, where surveillance, communications and navigation systems could increasingly process data in orbit before transmitting it to Earth.
